Real Hijacking
Thursday, May 03, 2007
I hate it when the term is used in relation to companies using RSS feeds to bring content to users. I understand the implications to the podcasters and if its not done "right" it can cause a lot of issues. The word "hijacking" though to me implies malice, apathy, or outright theft.A case in point: there is one site that I know of the routinly takes the feed from this blog and republishes on another with no credit to me. Today I noticed that they are now inserting ads within my posts - compare this post to this screen shot.
There is no obvious way to get in touch with this person, and there's little "oops" factor involved. (If I were to actually talk to the owner of this site there is little chance that he'd say "oops, I made a mistake.")
This person knows exactly what they are doing, and that its not right. That's hijacking.

New Media/Old Media

Sometimes it doesn't really matter. Ed Brandon has been a Houston fixture for as long as I can remember. He is the only weatherman my grandfather would watch and he's just always been around. So now he is retiring. The interesting thing is, he's announced it on the blog of fellow-Houstonian and media fixture Mike McGuff.
Just interesting...
