Hey. My name is Russell Holliman. I'm a professional project manager by day, and one of the founders of Podcast Ready by night. This is my blog about life on the web, life in general, and random things I find here and there.

Star Wars Dance Contest

Not relevant to pretty much anything, I know. But its Star Wars. Chewy... dancing to the Footloose soundtrack... c'mon!

NORAD Tracks Santa

NORAD is tracking Santa and it seems he's already begun his trek this year. The folks there are also uploading Santa reports to YouTube as well as manning the phones (877) HI-NORAD for visitors with questions.

Ever have trouble explaining to people what it is you do as a Web 2.0 Guru, or an expert on "User Generated Content"? Show this to your mom and it will all make sense.

LOL Thanksgiving Goodness

(If you are one of those that thinks the whole "LOL" thing is just not funny - and believe me, there are times that I don't - then pay no attention to this post.)

In the spirit of LOLCats and icanhascheezburger comes something new for the Holiday season: LOLGrims...

Phrase of the day: "Cornucopia of Uselessness"

From Valleywag's post regarding Facebook apps:
"None of the most popular apps actually do anything," a high-ranking Yahoo developer recently told Valleywag. It's hard to disagree: "Top Friends"? "Food Fight"? But Facebook's cornucopia of uselessness may gain some measure of utility on Friday.

Keeping the Birds from Crapping in your Pool

No, that's not some euphemism about haters in the social network space. Its really a funny video showing how one guy stopped the birds from crapping in his pool.

Its Never My Fault

Last night I decided to go hit a restaurant near the house. I was looking for some cocktails and dinner, but no trouble. I chose this particular place because we go there a lot as a family - we know the owners and they know me. More importantly, they know my wife. What could be safer, right?

Wrong.

It seems that the smoking ban took effect at midnight last night. Just as I was about to close my tab and head home, all of the ladies in the place grabbed a smoke, hopped on the bar, and began dancing.

Not wanting to seem rude, I decided that I would hang around until the show was over. The show lasted until closing at 2am. My car battery however, didn't. So a jump start later I'm now back home and trying to figure out how I'm going to get my car fixed.

"Man in the Woods Week, 2007" Continues

If a man says something out in the woods, but his wife is not there to hear him, is he still wrong?
That's the question that "Man in the Woods Week" strives to answer. My wife and kids have gone north to visit family for the week and I have the rare opportunity to do some things that I don't normally have time to do:

1. Happy hour with the guys from work... check!
2. Spend all day Saturday away from the house at a tech event... check!
3. Go to a Houston Texans football game... check!
4. Go to see a movie at a movie theater... check! (three in fact)

I've cranked the A/C at the house down to a cool 70 degrees... I cook every meal on the grill and eat over the sink (so as not to create any dishes that I have to clean).

So what's next on the agenda... any suggestions?

Skiiing in Texas

I really have to wonder about investors sometimes. If you are not familiar with Texas, just know that we only have about 2 months of winter every year, and the rest of the time we just call "hot". And yet, a group as decided that Dallas of all places would be a great place for a ski resort.

Sure, it would be nice to have a cool place to escape to, but for some reason I just don't see Fort Worth, Texas becoming a center for winter sports.

"A is for Asthma" and other childhood favorites

This is certainly not the Sesame Street that I remember from my childhood.

All of the episodes are free on iTunes and include other interesting titles such as: A is for Asthma: Elmo and Rosita learn what to do when their friend has trouble breathing and Lead Away: Oscar, Elmo, and Rosita learn how to protect themselves from the dangers of lead.

Its a scary new world.

I'd heard that the USPS was doing this, but I hadn't seen one in the wild until yesterday when I was cruising the streets of downtown Austin.

Whatever Happened to....

... the Lexus self-parking car? There was a lot of commercials for it, and a lot of buzz about it, and now: nothing. I assume its still out there, or that I'd have heard the news that it was pulled from the market. I just expected to read/see a lot more Lexus videos like we've seen from Wii owners. Maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Steve and Bill Talking Dirty

Geeks are Sexy points out a funny YouTube clip of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates making each other hot by talking about computers. The funny thing is, when its Bill's turn to talk (about Vista) its really not that exciting.

Microsoft Vista Cab

For those that remember the old joke comparing Microsoft to the automobile industry will get a particular kick out of this one.
You have to wonder about the 20-something-year-old marketing genius that thought this would be a good idea.
