"What's in a Name" TPC for 01/26/05
Wednesday, January 26, 2005
What's in name? Well, not a whole lot when it comes to podcasts.
Today's podcasts includes an editorial regarding some listener feedback, some podcast sites that I found to be useful, a great new podcast: the singular podcast, as well as a bunch of commentary on "news you can lose."

Very cool service: podcastmania.com
Monday, January 24, 2005
If you have not done so already, go check out podcastmania.com. It's a very cool service that delivers your favorite podcast in a stream. So when I am at another computer or just don't have my Treo charged, I can check out my favorites instantly without waiting on the download. This is very cool.
Thanks Hank!

Name Change
I'd thought of changing the name a while back, but decided not to. Then this morning I saw the following comment on podcastalley.com
Not so great I started listening to this podcast thinking it was about Treos, but was disapointed to find rambilings about everything but. I'd pass on this one and pick up the Wizards of Tech as they seem to talk about Treos more than this podcast.
Time to change? But then I saw it was signed by 'superdork' and realized just how meaningless podcastalley.com is... (but please got vote for TPC).

"All About Me" TPC for 01/23/05
Sunday, January 23, 2005
Tonight's podcast is, well, all about me... a prelude to my birthday on the 28th. Nothing really important... just a lot of gab.
1. other things also happened in 1971
2. wish I could play golf or go target shooting
3. gunrelated podcasts
4. how about a podcast from a 'right to carry' class
5. how I almost broke my thumb
6. golf - a thinking man's game
7. the origins of golf, by Robbin Williams
8. snotty "good" golfers - hate 'em
9. my local golf course / fishing hole
10. golf = crack
11. retro soundseeing tour of the morning after my 21st birthday
and that's about it...

Apple's iPod Shuffle
Friday, January 21, 2005
Have you noticed that a lot of podcasts have started to add a “title and date” statement before their intro’s so that people can tell right away if they want to listen? With as much griping as I’ve read about the new Shuffle it’s funny how in a small way it had an immediate effect on podcasts (no screen).
I was not really thinking about getting any new MP3 players right now, but I came across this little item tonight. For those who think Apple’s “innovation” is the best thing in it’s price point, check out Aiptek’s Music Capsule. It’s a key chain/MP3 player. No Screen, and a USB adapter just like the Shuffle. The main difference? It uses SD cards! What a concept!
So their 512meg unit sells for $79.00. And if you don’t need the SD card, then it’s only $29.99. So it’s an MP3 player and an SD card reader. Of course, it does not sync with iTunes….
I could not help myself… I ordered one. I’ll let you know how it works out.
And of course, while I was on their site, I could not resist ordering their new DV5300 camera/video/voice recorder (I love retailers that take PayPal).
I’m not kidding myself… as the proud owner of the Aiptek PenCam SD 1.3 and their PocketCam X digital cameras (which also do video) I’m not expecting anything outstanding. But it’s cheap (certainly a lot cheaper than the $400 D-Snap I was going to get for my wife, and with a higher res camera) it should be fun to play with.
And besides, it comes with a free watch… can’t beat that.

Metro-Marsupials

Less than a mile from downtown Houston, and I have to lock the dogs up because there are two opossums in the back yard.
My wife thinks they are "cute", but I just don't see it...

Show a little love...
I know that I have not talked about it much lately. And I know that in the grand scheme of things, it really does not matter. But for whatever reason, my standing over at podcastalley.com is weighing on my mind.
For the lonest time, I was maintaining my position within the top 20. But very recently, even though my votes have jumped to 42, I have slipped to 30... and still dropping.
My goal is to try to remain in the top 20 if possible... just a theory, but it seems that newcomers will probably not go too far beyond that list when checking out the offerings of podcastalley.com.
So if you get a chance. please take ten seconds or so and go cast a VOTE for the Treo Podcast... I'd really appreciate it.

Oops. Does the RIAA give mulligans?
I have always maintained that I know nothing really of music, or artists, or what's popular. And I guess the Scissor Sisters demonstrates this fact. Stuart wrote me last night explaining that
As a matter of interest, the Scissor Sisters are HUGE in the UK. I listen to BBC Radio 2 (as an ex-pat Brit) and they are played a lot.
So now I am certain that I broke some rules somewhere by playing their song "Laura" at the end of yesterday's show. Sorry. If it matters, I did go out and buy that album yesterday and I do like it...

"Regular Old" Treo Podcast for 01/19
Wednesday, January 19, 2005
Someone suggested the other day that perhaps 'modcast' would be a good alternative to 'podcast' - mod meaning "media on demand" or something like that. Primarily a term to include other forms of media and remove the notion that an iPod has to be involved. Even though I think 'podcast' is here to stay, I have no problem with 'modcast'. But would that mean that the Podsquad would then become the Modsquad? and if so...
which one is Dave and which one is Drew?
These questions, and a whole lot more are addressed in today's podcast. For more show notes and to leave comments, check out the discussion thread.

Talk about stuff
Friday, January 14, 2005
I talked earlier about trying to set up some sort of discussion forum, and here it is. Right now it's only geared up to talk about my shows, mobilepodcasting, and then there is a 'general' section. But it's wide open - I'll pretty much add anything anyone wants.

Prince Update
Well, so much for the benefit of the doubt. Turns out that Price Harry really did dress up as a nazi to attend a party. What a bonehead.
(Sorry... just saw it on the news and that reminded me that I never went back a re-read the article. Damn it, Jim!)
