Hey. My name is Russell Holliman. I'm a professional project manager by day, and one of the founders of Podcast Ready by night. This is my blog about life on the web, life in general, and random things I find here and there.

Link Bait King

Love him or hate him, you have to admit he's good at playing the game. I'm talking about Calacanis of course. His latest link bait stunt is added to the end of his post (a rather good post btw) on why he is leaving Facebook.
Note: I'm not going to turn comments on.... so stop asking. If this is such an important post for your to comment on do it on your blog. If you don't have a blog--which takes 10 minutes to setup--then maybe you're not worthy of commenting, or others reading your comments. If you do have a blog and don't want to take the time to fire off a blog post in response to this then, frankly, how valuable is your comment? The benchmark for responding to my blog is now starting your own blog and writing a post. If you do that I'll consider linking to you if it is intelligent and interesting. Those are the new rules....

Forget about the thought that a blog without comments isn't really a blog. Basically what he is saying here is that if your comment is worth reading then you will take the time to create a blog (if you don't already have one), write a post, and link to him.

Silly? Yes, at face value... But I'd love to find out how many inbound links he gets from it.

you make a good point... it is a masterful linkbaiting move.

... however, do those incoming link even matter at this point? My domain is already very high in page rank, I don't make any money from my blog, and I'm not interesting in search engine traffic.

i don't know. maybe the links to mahalo that probably accompany many posts about you is useful. maybe you just wanted to start some buzz on other blogs. maybe you're just really not interested in comments anymore. your not what i'd generally describe as 'obivous'. i'm still curious how many it got you though... :)

The simple act of posting "controversial" statements on his blog (whether contrived or not) seems to work as well... you (and I am sure others) just providing him with another link. :)
