Web Services and Devices

There is an interesting article over on Union Square Ventures about the surge of web services coming on-line and the distinct lack of interactivity with devices. Quoting from the entry:
"...there is something missing from all this innovation and that is the integration between these new web services and these new devices. Sure you can upload the photos you shot with your cool Sanyo Xacti video/still camera to Flickr, but its not seamless. You can watch YouTube videos on your PSP, but it
takes some work. You can put the songs you bought on iTunes in your iPod, but not your new Z5."
This got me thinking about the current podcast environment. There are a lot of podcast services out there for the consumer, but how many of them are both open and consumer friendly? Most either are closed systems that work only with specific devices, while others are completely open but cumbersome for the new user to understand. Regardless, they all require that software applications be installed to computers in order to receive podcasts, and even to subscribe to podcasts with some sort of seemlessness.
What if someone could put together a system that would open up the world of podcasting to practiaclly any device out there - create a simple way to subscribe to and share podcasts - enable users to subscribe to any podcast with one click, from any web site or directory - and all of this without the user having to install software or drivers on their computer. Easy, portable, and personal...
