Houston Parking Meters on Engadget

Let’s be clear: I am not against this technology.

I am against turning the meters into a public-accessible municipal wireless network.

I am against the expenditure at this time.

C’mon, we’re talking about a city that can’t afford police officers… We have traffic and transportation issues that have to be addressed…

It’s a matter of priorities. To put it in terms for my two-year-old: wifi parking meters are an “I Want” not an “I Need”.

And besides, we’re talking about a city that cannot promise their new high-tech 911 call center will be on-line at any given moment… I sure don't trust them to keep a wireless network up and running, and secure.
