Old Dogs and New Tricks

Dwight Silverman, the tech writer for the Houston Chronicle, has just started blogging (again) and I am learning some interesting stuff. Dwight is a co-host of that Wednesday night radio program I talk about a lot…the one where we sit around drinking and making fun of the hosts and the callers…
Apparently Dwight tried to use a Mac exclusively for 14 days, but only made it ten. I thought this was of particular interest to me as I have been switching over to my Mac Mini as well. His original conclusion included the following statement:
I found I really missed using Windows. I missed the layout, the look-and-feel, the ability to tweak and futz with impunity, the endless supply of freeware and shareware. While the Mac was pretty, simple and easy to use, I constantly felt like I was having to battle constraints to use it. . . . As a result, I only lasted 10 days with the mini. I wasn't displeased with it. But it just didn't feel like home.
Heck, I can’t even right-click on an icon to bring up it’s properties 100% of the time with impunity in Windows. And I don't find the Mac constraining at all, except for the lack of audio inputs (and not enough USB ports).
But I think the one comment that really brings things into perspective was by “John” who wrote:
I still think a system that sends you to the START menu to turn the computer OFF has the weirdness market cornered!
